This museum is situated in the Green Castle which was the residence of Anna Amalia, the Duchess of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. The courtly book collection was moved by her into this library. The museum has a vast collection of historical documents and German literature with around 850,000 books. At present this is a public research library for literature and art history.
