Characterised by tall cliffs, tranquil waters and small bays, Astipalea has spectacular natural settings and views. Recreational activities like swimming, snorkelling, canoeing and windsurfing are also offered to the visitors.
Maltezana is the most famous and lively beach with boat rides to nearby villages as well as water sport opportunities. Other beautiful beaches include the Liendou Beach and the Elena Beach. Interestingly, the Beach of Platio Gialos is a sandy turf filled with various ducks.
The archaeological museum in Chora is a beautiful storehouse of relics which tell the tale of Astipalea’s history and lifestyle. Another enthralling place is the Venetian Castle which houses two beautiful churches, the Church of Our Lady Portaitissa being one of the most beautiful churches in Greece with impressive architecture.
Other noteworthy sites are the Monastery of Panaghia Portaitissa-Livadi and the Ecclisiastic Museum.
