Elasson: Attractions and more...
The Monastery of Panagia Olympiotissa was built in the thirteenth century and is found in the ancient Acropolis. Some traces of the ancient walls of the monastery remain, with blocks and inscriptions built into it. The frescoes in the monastery are contemporary, that is, they are from the fourteenth century. The monastery is also the symbol of the town.
Those who are interested in Greek history can visit the Military Museum of
Sarantoporo located at a distance of about 20 km from the town of Elasson. On the other hand, skiing enthusiasts can stopover at the Olympus Ski resort.
The festival of Eluetheria is held every year in October to celebrate the liberation of the city from the Turks.
