Gythion: Attractions and more...

Situated near the entrance of the city is the Theatre, which is the most important edifice of the Roman Age. It still houses the ruins of the Temple of Athena and the Gates of Castorides as well as an aqueduct.

To the south of the town lies the small island of Kranai, which is connected to the town by a causeway. Kranai should be visited for the Tzanetakis Tower which was built during the Ottoman rule and now houses the Ethnological Museum. Another interesting piece of architecture is the Lighthouse of Gythion, built in 1873. It is 25 m tall with a range of nine nautical miles.

The Archaeological Museum of Gythion has a vast collection, which includes finds from excavations, collections and gifts from the ancient city of Gythion.

Those who enjoy seafood must make it a point to visit some of the traditional local ouzeries for their fish preparations especially Ouzerie Korali.
