Kardamyla: Attractions and more...
The town has many churches which are the main attractions in the village. Pera Penaghia is a monastery that was built in dedication to the ‘Presentation of Virgin Mary’. The icons in its old church date back to about 1901. Aghios Nikolaos Prinaritis is one of the most noteworthy monuments in Chios and is located the foot of mountain Gria. It has frescoes that date back to the sixteenth century. The church of Aghios Loukas is located in the area of Livadi. It is famous for its wooden iconostasis which is a magnificent monumental work of art with religious depictions and icons.
The site of the statue of the Sailor from Kardamyla in Marmaro should not be missed. It was sculpted by ‘Apartis’. Set in the harbour square, it forms a distinguishing mark of the city.
There are some delightful beaches located in the area. Of these, Nagos and Yiosonas are considered the best of all.
