Samos Island is a popular tourist destination and is home to the World Heritage Sites of the Heraion of Samos and the Pythagorean. The various recreational activities, lively nightlife and historic landmarks make the place worth a visit.
The Heraion of Samos is a magnificent temple and the first of the huge Ionic temples. The beautiful architecture is made obvious through stunning columns and statues. Some of the remains from the temple are also preserved in the Samos Archaeological Museum.
Another important site in the region is the Pythagorean, an ancient port which houses Greek and Roman monuments. It also houses the famous Eupalinian Tunnel, which is an awe-inspiring construction that impresses modern-day architects as well. The tunnel brings in water from the springs of Agiades.
