Tourist Guide Alonissos
Alonissos is a tranquil region in Sporades, Greece with several other islands included in the municipality of Alonissos, which is made up of limestone. With a population of approximately 3,000 people, Alonissos is an excellent tourist destination offering the Old World Greek charm.
Mild winters, frequent rainfall and warm summers characterise the climate of the region. The heat of the summers is tempered by the Meltemi winds, although winters are a pleasant time to visit. The place is also prone to periodic storms.
Inhabited since the pre-historic times, Alonissos suffered heavy damages in the 1965 earthquake. Recovery was slow but certain, and today, the region thrives on agriculture followed by fishing and tourism.
