Galaxidi: Attractions and more...
Monuments of interest in the city include the Church of St. Nicholas, which is known for its carved, wooden icon screen, and the Ayia Paraskevi, also a church, which has the zodiac cycle inlaid in its altar and has a sundial in its forecourt.
For a taste of Galaxidi’s art and culture, one can visit the Archaeological Collection of Galaxidi which houses finds from Galaxidi and the adjacent areas as well as items found from the sea. Also, the Nautical Museum of Galalxidi can be visited for its collection of paintings of sailing ships, figureheads with carved wooden figures of women, nautical instruments, ships’ logs and registers of the Galaxidiot ships.
Galxadi also hosts a number of events such as the Flour Wars Carnival in February and the Nautical Week held in the last week of June. Also, the Merchant’s Market is a weekly bazaar held every Thursday.
