There are no major health hazards in Greece. It is advisable to prevent your skin from being exposed excessively to the hot Mediterranean sun as this could result in sunburn or long term skin damage. The country has a team of helicopter ambulances serving its islands in case of emergency.

Greece is one of the safest countries in Europe with violent crime and thefts being minimal. In Athens, it is locally advised to avoid the areas from Omonoia Square to Karaiskaki Square and the vicinity of the Larissis Train Station when travelling late at night.

It is useful to note that bargaining is ineffective and sometimes considered distasteful except in certain souvenir or arts and crafts stores. It is also preferable to avoid speaking against any regional or national political party or soccer team as the Greeks may take offence to it. Taking photographs of military establishments and government locations is strictly prohibited.
