Ios, previously known as Phonice, is an island under the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea, Greece. The capital of Ios is the village of Chora. Its port is situated at the beginning of the Ormos harbour
The island has a hilly terrain which has cliffs along the coast. Ios has a typical Cycladic climate. It has a mild winter season with sparse rainfall, a cool spring and autumn and a dry, hot summer with an average temperature of 29°C.
The population of Ios is approximately 1,800. The inhabitants are mostly involved in tourism related business such as cafes, taverns, hotels etc.
