The Kalamata Beach covers a stretch of about four km and boasts of crystal blue waters. It has been awarded with the blue flags of Europe. The beach is famous for its scenic beauty and colourful shells found on its coast.
 
The famous Byzantine church of the Virgin Ypapanti is located in the town. It is famous for the Kalamata silk woven by the nuns here. There are several other churches located within the city which should be seen for their architectural beauty.

There are several museums in Kalamata which provide the visitors with interesting historical information. The Railway Museum is located to the south of the Municipal Park. The Benakeion Archaeological Museum located in the heart of the city, houses treasures ranging from the Bronze Age to the Roman period.

Kalamata hosts a number of cultural events and festivals. The Kalamata Dance Festival is held every year and focuses on the exchange of Greek and foreign dance troupes.
