Kythira offers a variety of beaches, from small and peaceful to big and crowded. The more popular beaches are Kapsali Beach and Kaladi Beach. The smaller beaches are Agios Nikolaos bay, Platia Amos beach and Avlemonas beach.
There is a Venetian Castle located in Hora, the capital city. The castle also houses an Archaeological Museum which has a vast collection of finds from all over the island. The village of Livadi must be visited for its churches of Agios Andreas and Panagia of Konteletou. They have fine frescoes and offer an amazing view of the sea.
Another site which must be visited is the beautiful Neraida or Fonissa Waterfall which has the most delightful scenic view.
The island also has an active nightlife mostly centred in the village of Kapsali. The festival of Panagia in Potamos on 15 August and the wine festival in Mitata on the first Friday and Saturday of August are the biggest in Kythira and attract a lot of tourists.
