Lesvos Island has several beaches spread across its coast. Some are peaceful and tranquil while others are full of cafés, restaurants and taverns. The beach of Agios Isidoros allows the visitors to indulge in some water sports. Several other beaches such as Eftalou, Kagia, Kampos and Melinta can be visited for their scenic beauty.
To the north of the village of Erossos lie the much advertised Petrified Forests, formed when Mount Ordymnos erupted, submerging the trees in ash. Also, the Ipsilou Monastery must be visited for its beautiful courtyard and a small museum.
Another feature of Lesvos is its thermal springs which can be visited for their natural beauty. Some thermal springs are Thermi, Gera, Skala Loutra and Lisvouri.
Lesvos comes alive during the summer months with a number of festivals, most popular of them being the fete of Taxiarchis at Mantamados on the Sunday of Myrrh Bearing and the fete of the Bull at Ag. Paraskevi on 1 June.
