Olympia is a famous town in Elis, Greece and is known for being the site of the Olympic Games in olden times. It is home to a small population of about 12,000 inhabitants and attracts thousands of tourists annually for its rich natural beauty and historic significance.
The city has a Mediterranean climate which is characterised by mild temperatures. Summers can be hot but the dry winds temper the heat to a great extent. Winters are moderate and very dry.
A spiritual centre of ancient Greece, Olympia was a major trade centre for the lumber-based industries. In recent times, agriculture and tourism have been the major occupations.
