The two further port Zea and Mikrolimano are rather touristy and more pleasant
to visit.
Praeus is situated southern of Athens, it was the port of the ancient city of
Athens and was chosen to serve as the modern port when Athens was refounded
in 1834.
Thanks to its position and ports Piraeus is still an important shipping and
industrial centre.
The climate is typical Mediterranean with mild winters, short springs, hot and
dry summers and long autumns.
The weather is characterized by a clear blue sky during nearly the whole year
(average of 250 days of sunlight) and a low humidity.
In Winter the average temperature is about 10°C, and seldom it can reach
6°C .
In spring temperatures are rising from 12°C in March to a pleasantly 19°C
by May. Summer is very hot the temperature varies between an average of 23°C
in June to a hot 27°C in July and August with daytime temperatures often
jumping over the 35°C.
Autumn is a very pleasant season, the temperatures go from 23°C in September
to 15°C in November. The rainfalls are typical and frequent from October
to November.
