Acropolis

Rhodes Acropolis stands in the western area  of the city. Differently from other, famous, Greek  acropolises, it was not just thought  as a fortified place but, on the contrary, as the area where to build the most important and beautiful buildings of the entire city. For this reason, statements from the Roman times, describe the acropolis like a rich and sumptuous place. Obviously nothing has remained of the buildings that used to stand here, except for the ancient temple dedicated to Apollo Pythios, the Odeon and the ancient stadium.

The Acropolis of Rhodes

The Acropolis of Rhodes overlooked the western parts of the Rhodes city. This historic site is replete with Sanctuaries and huge temple premises. The Acropolis of Rhodes is considered to be one of the finest specimens of Hellenic style of architecture which blends harmoniously with the surrounding environment. The excavation of this site was during the 1912 to 1945 years. The entire site has to be excavated.
