Tourist Guide Santorini
Situated in the Aegean Sea, 200 km south-east of the mainland, is the of small, circular archipelago of volcanic islands known as Santorini. The largest of the islands is Thera.
The breathtaking natural beauty and sophisticated nightlife have made it a world-class tourist destination. The estimated population of the island is around 14,000.
Around 3,500 years ago, Santorini experienced a massive volcanic eruption, which is beliebed to have caused the destruction of the Minoan society on the island of Crete.
The eruption created a huge sea-filled caldera at the centre of the island, surrounded by layers of volcanic ash hundreds of feet deep.
