Skiros: Attractions and more...
The island consists of various attractions for the visitors in the form of a stunning castle, a Byzantine monastery, archaeological sites and small, unspoilt beaches and more. The beautiful sandy beaches are a delight to visit with boat trips organised to almost every beach, cave and islet.
Skiros is also famous for its ethnic Greek festivals, the most prominent being the Apokritika Festival, in which three strange characters dance through the streets, followed by other revellers.
The Faltaits Historical and Folklore Museum is one of the best folk art museums in Greece which showcases embroidery, clothes, weaving, woodworks and rare photographs. It also houses a workshop where artisans give shape to lovely objects and patterns.
Other interesting sights in this region include the Castle of Skiros with all its ancient finery in the form of towers and the Byzantine temple of Agios Athanasios.
