Food is excellent and compared to other European places very inexpensive. Drinks also very affordable. Coffe is expensive especially in areas with a sea view between 3.50 and 4 Euro. There are places in the suburbs like Perea , Thermi,Panorama with excellent sea food and/or meats like soutzoukakia ,gyros ,stuffed eggplants.
Not to be missed:

Music Theater(Megaro Mousikis)
,
Kitchen Bar inside the port

The most beautiful town in Greece. Greece’s second city has style, with plenty of fashionable shops and salons and a 1-million-strong population fleshed out by a big university (80,000-plus students). Thessaloniki boasts great nightlife during those long months when more famous Greek destinations are deep in hibernation, from arty cafes to Latin bars; from discos pumping out house music to salacious bouzoukia (clubs featuring twangy, Eastern-flavoured Greek folk-pop). That’s plenty to keep you occupied after you’ve traversed the city’s sublime Byzantine churches, museums and scattered ruins. It’s not cheap, but no Greek city save Athens compares.

Thessaloniki experiences Mediterranean Climate as it is situated along the northerly part of the Thermaic Gulf. Due to this, the city has mild winters and sunny summers. The city has rainfall which is slight and varies quite a bit throughout the year. The month of November and December gets slightly showers and there are short summer thunderstorms which are not frequent. Tourists chose the climate which is favorable and mostly come in late spring, early summer or at the beginning of fall.

The Byzantine Museum, preserving the artefacts from the Byzantine era, the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum, displaying a collection of findings dating back to the Neolithic times, and several other museums can be all found in the centre of the city.
The Rotunda was built as a mausoleum; it then served as a church and is now the site for concerts and exhibitions. It boasts of a beautiful collection of mosaics. Aghios Dimitrios, a church, contains a crypt, some sculptures and other Byzantine treasures. A copy of the original Aghia Sofia, in Istanbul, has also been made here.
The ... More White Tower, a part of the original fortifications, was once known as the Bloody Tower as this was where executions took place; today, it is a museum and the city’s symbol.
There are several beaches and resort town along the Halkidhiki peninsula which make for good trips from Thessaloniki.

If someone like to spend summer in cities should also visit Thessaloniki. There is lots of ancient architecture and also many other atractions. A big disadvantage is the weather, during summer it's simply very hard to stay in the city, but it depends on person.
