As its name implies, the museum features the permanent and temporary exhibitions of Byzantine arts and culture. These exhibitions are organized in several rooms, depicting the evolution of Byzantine culture.
There are over 2900 artifacts with a variety of objects such as mosaics, pottery, frescoes, icons, statues, paintings, Christian-burial items, personal ornaments, textiles and marble architectural members. There is a separate section of donated collections.
The ground floor of the museum contains partial reconstruction of 3 Byzantine chapels. The White Tower houses another permanent exhibition dedicated to the Thessaloniki city and its residents. From time to time, the museum also organizes temporary exhibitions.
