One of a favorite hungarian street food discoveries was a deep-fried and really are any of the best street foods not deep fried?
In Hungary called lángos (pronounced lahn-gosh). Costing the equivalent of about a dollar at the Vásárcsarnok (Central Market Hall), lángos is a potato dough that’s fried, loaded with cheese then slathered with sour cream. You eat it while standing amongst the buzzing hustle of the grand market, from a wax paper and if you’re lucky with one playing-card sized napkin.
In Budapest, as in every major city, affordable street food is available where people gather. Langos and ice cream (fagylalt) are definite musts and I'd throw in palascinta. Around budapest, you can get palascinta at Nagyi's they are 24 hour. They also sell them at the snack stand at Palatinus and probably some of the snack stands around the island.
Palascinta are kind of like crepes, a little thicker, and can be filled with sweet or savory ingredients. A really special hungarian filling is turo,a sweet, tangy cheese kind of like you'd find in a cannoli. Or try "Gesztenyés" - which is a nut paste, typical flavors of Budapest!
