The museum of Aquincum preserve ruins of the city from two thousand years ago, including the hydra, famous all over the world.
Museum of Aquincum is situated at 1031 – Budapest, Szentendrei út 139. The timings of the museum are different in different seasons. During January to April, it remains open on Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 to 16:00.
From 15th to 30th April, the closing time gets extended till 17:00 hrs. During May to September, it operates from 10:00 to 18:00 while for the remaining months it is again operational from 10:00 to 17:00 hrs. It is closed on Mondays in all seasons.
One of the permanent exhibitions in the museum is Gods, soldiers, citizens. Essentially, it showcases Budapest during the Roman Empire, based on archeological excavations. One can see metal, jewels, tools, glass, mosaics and wall-paintings.
Whole columns and ruins can be observed outside the court. Other exhibitions showcase further excavations which reveal ruins of an amphitheater, soldier’s bath, governor’s palace, field-town museum, place of legion-camp and so on.
A ruin-garden can also be located in the premises. Various events are organized by the museum authorities. It is also responsible for a couple of publications.
