Budapest is one of the few places that have a climate suitable for outdoor nightclubs. During the summer these clubs and bars, known to the locals as “kerts,” can be found all around town in courtyards of vacant buildings. They can also be found in city parks and on the islands surrounding Budapest.
One that is particularly popular is Café del Rio, one of the larger outdoor nightclubs that offers a carnival-like atmosphere with tropical décor. It typically plays electro, R&B, and house disco, and serves reasonably priced food and drinks. The Fecske Terrace presents a more glamorous summer experience, as it has a high-rise balcony with breath-taking views of the Danube and Margit Island. It has tasty lemonade drinks and a luxurious deck-chair to soak up some rays. Szimpla Kert is a popular, dilapidated-chic beer garden located in inner Budapest, but if you’re looking for live music, then also check out Zöld Pardon. It is known for hosting concerts for a wide variety of genres.
Usually there is some kind of event happening at these nightclubs. Whether it’s a musical performance, themed party, or film screening, it’s not hard to have a great night at a Hungarian kert in the summer!
