Budapest has two authentic Turkish bath houses that were constructed during the 150-year-long Turkish rule of the 16th and 17th centuries. Only the two central ones with elaborate domes lived on from the particular era.
Kiràly Bath was commissioned in 1565, after Arszlan Pasha conquered Buda. In the central area of the bath house, you can see light beaming through hexagonal openings in the octagonal roof. This creates a colorful misty effect on the interior of the building. There are four separate areas where you can rest your body after loosening up your muscles in a hot bath. As the main room is very steamy, reading a book may prove to be nearly impossible, and it is recommended that guests just focus on relaxing.
Rudas Bath is larger and known for its beauty. Built in 1550, the building has stained glass windows that create a colorful vibrant effect inside the pool. The house’s services include underwater jet massages and complex balneotherapy treatment.
Budapest’s Turkish bath houses are open to men and women on separate days, as swimsuits are optional. However, there is usually one or two days of the week when both sexes can attend, and suits are mandatory.
