Tourist Guide Carmelo
Located in the department of Colonia in southwest Uruguay, Carmelo is a small city with approximately 16,628 inhabitants. A tourist city par excellence, the topography of this area is similar to the Parana River Delta area.
Carmelo has a typically mild climate; with fresh air and the smell of pine and eucalyptus wafting through, this little city is worth visit during any season.
Carmelo was founded by Jose Gervasio Artigas on 12 February 1816. Dominated by the majestic Rio de la Plata, one of the widest rivers in the world, it offers an inspiring experience.
The city is known for its vineyards and warehouses that are of great significance to the country and have received awards at national as well as international levels. Other important industries in Carmelo include the wheat industry and apiculture.
