The major public holidays in the country are New Year’s Day (1 January), National Day (15 March), Hungarian-Polish Friendship Day (23 March), Easter, Pentecost, Labour Day (1 May), Saint Stephen Day (20 August), Boxing Day (26 December) and so forth. Christmas is a very important religious festival for the Hungarians.

Budapest Spring Festival is one of the most important festivals in the country which is celebrated for two weeks each year in the month of March. It is marked by conferences, competitions, cultural performances and much more. Other similar events include the Budapest Film Festival (held in February), Busójárás (held in February) and the Sopron Festival Weeks (held in June or July).
