The Belvaros is the old city which has retained most of its medieval architecture. The highlight of the cobble-stoned square is the imposing Church of the Virgin. The church is flanked by two buildings: one which houses a collection of Catholic relics and the other which is a Guild Museum with ceramics on display. Several other museums can also be found in the vicinity, such as the Lutheran history Museum, the Forest museum and the Mining Museum.
The city’s main square is characterised by the historic Holy Trinity Statue and the Goat Church. The church is believed to have been built by a goat herder and has a very ornate interior. The Fabricus House is home to an archaeological museum.
The Firewatch tower was constructed for guards to keep a watch over the city and report emergence of any fires; today, it serves as a vantage-point for a view of the city. The Gate of Loyalty was constructed under the tower as a mark of the citizens’ loyalty.
