Tourist Guide Szeged
Szeged is situated in the southern part of Hungary and is home to approximately 162,000 inhabitants. The city’s university is one of the best in the country and amongst the top rated in Europe, making it popular with foreign students as well.
Szeged enjoys a pleasant climate with many sunny days throughout the year; it has been nicknamed ‘the city of sunshine’. Temperatures in the summertime range between 25°C and 35°C. Winters are generally mild, but there may be an occasional cold spell.
During the Middle Ages, Szeged flourished rapidly and it was fortified to protect it form invasions. A large part of the city was destroyed during World War II but the discovery of oil put it back amongst the important cities in Hungary.
