Enniskillen, meaning Kathleen’s Island, is the largest town in the Fermanagh County, Northern Island. With a population of almost 16,000 inhabitants, the city is also the main retail centre of the county. This historic town is a major industrial centre as well as a visitor’s delight with its wide range of attractions.
A temperate climate prevails in the city, characterized as being cold and humid. Summers are almost non-existent with winters dominating the region almost throughout the year. Fierce winds are a regular feature accompanied by light snowfall.
Ruled by the English in the 1600’s, Enniskillen had modest beginnings as an agricultural town. The town has grown to be the most important industrial centre in the county with agriculture, farming and tourism being the major areas.
