It was founded in the year 1981. The museum aims towards collecting photographic material and preserving it. Visitors can see some of the historical photographs of Iceland in this city run museum. The museum has hosted some of the greatest collection of photographs generated by local artists.

The museum remains open on all days, from 10 am to 4 pm.
