Tourist Guide Birr
Birr is an old market, and former garrison, town in the county of Offaly in Ireland. Situated at the meeting-point of the rivers, Camcor and Little Brosna, Birr is a designated Irish heritage town.
This county town has a mild climate and experiences the lowest winter temperatures in Ireland. It is a preferred stopover en route to the south or west of Ireland.
Birr is home to the Earls of Rosse who settled here in the early seventeenth century and contributed in the development and establishment of this town. With wide airy streets and detailed fan-lit houses, the present-day Georgian town is increasingly occupying a place on the world tourist map.
Farming (mainly wheat and barley) and manufacturing of industrial products like furniture, processed foods and whiskey are the chief economic activities in this town of about 5,100 inhabitants.
