You can’t come all the way out to Ireland without visiting to Blarney Stone (otherwise, why would you be here?). Get your lips puckered up, because this is one place you want to leave a good impression on.
The Blarney Stone is a block of bluestone built into the battlements of Blarney Castle, just outside of Cork. According to Irish legend, kissing the stone endows the kisser with “the gift of gab” (or great eloquence or skill at flattery). First set in 1446, the castle is one of Ireland’s most popular tourist sites, attracting international visitors to kiss the stone and tour the castle and its gardens. The ritual of kissing the stone is said to have been performed by millions of visitors, including world statesman, literary giants and Hollywood legends. It’s no surprise that those who kiss the stone end up directly at nearby pubs and cafes soon after, testing out their new “skills” with the local beautiful crowd.
