Shandon district is located in Cork city, which is popular for the bells of Shandon, a song celebrating the Church of St Anne bells. Written by Francis Sylvester Mahony, this place is a popular landmark worth of a visit. The name derives from the Gaelic term, “Sean Dun”, which means the “Old Fort”. When one approaches the Shandon place, they can see the red and white colored stone of St Anne’s church. This is a popular church here which received its parchial status in the year 1772. This church is known worldwide as the “Bells of Shandon”.
