Derry, also known as Londonderry, is a city located on the banks of the Foyle River in Northern Ireland. With a population of around 85,000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in Northern Ireland. Also called the maiden city and the walled city, Derry is an important industrial and tourist centre.
Typified by a moderate climate, Derry experiences cold winters and pleasant summers. Snowfall is a regular feature during winters and adequate rainfall is received, although it is irregular.
Historically, the city dates back to the sixth century and was a walled city with a rich textile base. Even today, it has a booming textile industry along with chemicals and ceramics. Tourism is another important industry.
