National Gallery of Ireland is situated at Merrion Square to the west of Dublin and is open from 9.30 to 5.30 from Monday to Saturday except on Thursday from 9.30 to 8.30 and Sunday from 12 to 5.30.

The museum has more than two thousand work on display with special emphasis on Irish Landscape portraits and art and also other European paintings as well.

The admission to the museum is free.

The highlights of the museum include five thousand drawings, two thousand five hundred oil paintings, fourteen thousand artwork, five thousand sculpture and prints as well as furniture and other pieces of art.

The Italian art consists of the largest collection with work of Titian, Mantegna, Rubans and Fra Angelico. There are Dutch and Spanish art in the collection as well.

In 2003 the museum opened the National Portrait Gallery and at present this displays over fifty portraits of significant figures of Irish History.

One can take a lunch break at the restaurant which is situated in the museum after touring the entire day.
