Tourist Guide Kenmar

Kenmare, located at the head of Kenmare Bay, is a small town in County Kerry, Ireland. This heritage town is the connecting point between the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara and is about 20 miles from Killarney city.

The North Atlantic current from the Gulf Stream and the South Western winds result in mild temperatures and heavy rainfall (the highest in Ireland) in this county.

Founded in 1670, Kenmare is a historically significant city. The town was granted as part payment to the English scientist, Sir William Petty by Oliver Cromwell for the mapping of Ireland in 1656. With a population of a little more than 1,800 people, this small town is a nice example of a planned town and earned the title of ‘the tidiest town in Ireland’ in the year 2000. Real estate development is on the rise leading to an increase in population.
