The town of Killarney, with a population of 7500, is situated in the centre of County Kerry in the south-west of the Republic of Ireland.
It lies in a deep valley on the shores of the Lakes of Killarney and the natural beauty of its surroundings and history have made Killarney a popular tourist resort since the 1700s.
The town is at the heart of the Killarney National Park and tourism is the major industry, particularly during the summer when the population of the town and surrounding area more than doubles.
