The Killarney National Park Education Center is a nonprofit entity which is operated by Cappanalea OEC in connection with the National Parks and Wildlife Service. This center is also based in Knockreer House which is located on a hill near the town. There are numerous features of national and international importance like the native oakwoods and the yew woods at the park. The park was designated as a Biosphere Reserve in 1981.
