Introduction

Lismore: Attractions and more...

One of the most popular attractions here is Lismore Castle, home to Sir Robert Boyle, the ‘Father of Chemistry’. The castle overlooks River Blackwater and is situated in the river valley. The Lismore Heritage Centre gives an award winning audio visual presentation of the town history.
The Lismore Millennium Park is a sight to behold. It has several interesting features like walkways, an ice house, a bridge and waterfall, a gazebo and an obelisk.

The seventeenth-century St. Carthage Cathedral has a spire and Celtic tombstones in the interior. The Famine Graveyard, where the victims of the Irish famine were buried, is also located in this town.

The Lismore Festival of Travel Writing, Immrana, is held over a weekend in June every year. One of the most popular events is the traditional music festival of Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan, held over three days in July, with participants from all around the province of Munster.
