Tourist Guide Londonderry
Londonderry is located in the north of Northern Ireland, close to the Irish border. This city of approximately 83,600 inhabitants is nestled within beautiful wild hilly terrain. This historic town is an emerging cultural centre.
Summers are the best time to visit, with the temperature averaging at a pleasant 18°C. Winters too are not very severe, and the daytime temperatures tend to hover around 10°C. The city has uniform rainfall throughout the year.
Londonderry began as a monastic settlement; at the end of the medieval times, it became the first planned city of Ireland. The main catalyst in the city’s growth was the textile industry.
The city was walled for protection against enemies; though the city walls were subjected to several attacks, they never collapsed.
