Newcastle: Attractions and more...

Newcastle lies at the base of the highest peak of the Mourne Mountains—Slieve Donard. This mountainous region boasts of some interesting walking trails and hiking and rock climbing spots. It is home to two large parks: Tollymore Forest Park, which is popular for picnics, and Donard Park, with the several rock pools which are used to swim in. Maggie’s Leap, a deep and unfenced chasm, and Armour’s Hole, a clef, are worth a visit because of the legends that surround these beautiful spots.

The Bloody Bridge is a beautiful coastal area of the town which has maintained the character of the old town; an old church and an old bridge are the main sites here. An interesting walking trail called the Brandy Pad also starts from here.

Owing to its location, Newcastle is a great place for outdoor activities. Besides hiking, walking and rock climbing in the mountains, it has a horse riding centre, a golf course and a water park.
