Tourist Guide Omagh
Omagh, meaning ‘Sacred Plain’, is the largest town in the Tyrone County of Northern Ireland. With an estimated population of around 22,000 inhabitants, it is regarded as the oldest town in the county. The town has a rich cultural character, evident in its ancient monuments, parks and annual events.
Climate in this region ranges from mild to extreme with summers being warm and winters, cool. Constant rainfall is experienced throughout the year; snowfall and occasional thunderstorms are also common in this area.
Found in 1610, Omagh gradually grew to become an important trade centre of the Tyrone County. A bomb blast in the year 1998 shook the region leaving thirty people dead and hundreds injured. However, the town gathered itself and inched towards its development. Tourism is the main industry in the region.
