Most notable among the attractions here are the tree-lined, flower decorated, promenade called The Mall and the little stone bridges running parallel to the river of Carrow Beg. There is also a monument on The Mall dedicated to Major John Mac Bride who fought the British in the Second Boer War and was executed in 1916.
The Holy Trinity Church is an architectural marvel known for its acoustic effect. Also, the church on the Croagh Patrick Mountain (the Reek) is a famous pilgrimage centre. Westport House and Country Estate, home of Lord Sligo, is open to visitors from April to September every year.
The town hosts several events and festivals in the course of a year. The Westport Street Festival during the months of July and August offers free fun and entertainment for everyone. There is also the Westport Horse & Pony Show (June), the annual Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage (July) and the Westport Seafood Festival (October) draw huge crowds.
