Basilicata can be described as a region located in Italy's southern part; which borders Campania on the western side, and Calabria on the southern side. Originally, Basilicata was called Lucania. It had been named after 'Lucani' tribe. They were the 1st known settlers. Name of theirs had been derived from 'Lucus', i.e. Latin word for forest. Population as per 2008 census was figured out to be 600000.
