Potenza can be described as a town as well as commune located in south Italy; in state of Basilicata. It serves as capital of ‘Potenza province’ and ‘Basilicata’ area.
Potenza overlooks valley of Basento river within Apennine Mountains of ‘Lucania’; on the eastern side of Salerno. Previous settlement with respect to Potenza had probably been located at an elevation lower in comparison with the present one; around 10 Km on the southern side of Potenza of today.
Potenza’s Lucani went on to side against enemies of Rome at the time of latter’s battles against Bruttii and Samnites. It had been subjugated during fourth century BC. Later, in 216 BC, Potentia got conquered once again by Romans. Thereafter, it lessened to a military colony.
Climate of Potenza is of Mediterranean type.
