The first document that speaks about Tha Croara is of 1084, while the first
official act that attests the existence of the monastery is of 1095. The present
shape of the Church dates back the end of the 1800's, while the chiostro has
maintained intact. the sixteenth-century structure . The traces of the pictorial
decoration are still visible: a roundel with a remarkable figure of "Madonna
with the child" presumablly work of Lippo di Dalmasio and some fragments
of fresco in the chiostro. Of the art works today they remain a few but valuable
documents, among which these art works stand out : a via Crucis in polychrome
brick of theXVII sec., two pictures of the Mastelletto,a painting of the school
of Guido Reni representing Saint Antonio from Padova and a beautiful altar-piece
with Jesus Child attributed to Hannibal Carracci. |
