Tourist Guide Tropea
Tropea is located within the province of Vibo Valentia, in Calabria (Southern Italy). The town is a famous bathing place, situated on a reef, in the gulf of St. Euphemia connected with the mainland by a narrow strip in the Tyrrhenian Sea. To the south lies Vibo Valentia and to the north are Ricadi and Capo Vaticano. It has an area of 3.2km square and the population was 6,922 with a density of 2,163 km square. Many villages around Tropea produce a particular quality of red onion. In Italy these onions are so famous that “Cipolla di Tropea” is an Italian synonym for all the generic red onions.
The town’s best gelateria, Tonino in the Corso, makes a red onion ice cream (as well as others based on squid ink and nduja, the local spicy salami). Tropea is one of the most beautiful towns in Calabria and lies along the south Tyrrhenian coast. Tropea is a medieval cliff-top town famous for its first-class sandy beaches and the extraordinary aquamarine colour of the sea.
