Tourist Guide Benevento
Benevento town is a commune of Campania situated in Italy. It is the capital of the province of Benevento and is situated fifty kilometers to the northeast of Naples. This is the seat of a Catholic archbishop. Benevento occupies the site of the ancient Beneventum. The vent portion refers to a market place and is a common element in ancient place names.
Benevento is thus also a city central in Mezzogiorno. It is from the first practically independent cities, and is referred as the Samnite duchy, after it was named by the ancient Italic inhabitants to the Samnium region.
As Maleventum, Benevento was one of the chief cities of Samnium and later on it one of the most significant cities of south Italy.
It is spread over an area of 49.8 square miles of land. It is located on a hill and is 300 feet above the sea level.
As per the 2007 census estimates, Benevento had a population of 62,940 people.
