Via Santo Stefano is the most well known place of worship in the city and has many holy buildings, which were built and renovated at various times. Santa Stefano is a complex of religious edifices and is located in the eponymous square. Local people call it the ‘Sette Chiese’, meaning the seven churches. As per the tradition, these buildings were built by Saint Petronius.
