Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Steccata

The above-mentioned church is the one which would remind one of Renaissance era. It is located in central part of Parma.

The year 1521 marked the establishment of this church. The interior part had been decorated by many prominent artists; of foreign as well as local origin. ‘Baroque’ altar inside the choir had been started by ‘Mauro Oddi’. The completion took place between 1758 and 1765 by Domenico and Andrea della Meschina. In presbytery and sacristy, most of the ‘fresco’ decorations and figures were planned or painted by Michelangelo Anselmi in apse of Coronation of the Virgin with Saints; followed by Adoration of the Magi.

This church goes on to contain funeral monuments pertaining to Ottavio Farnese, Adam Albert von Neipperg, and Sforzino Aforza. Inside the ‘crypt’, there are tombs of 26 members relating to Farnese family inclusive of Duke of Parma.
